In WordPress 2.3.x the famous localization problem on 64-bit experienced with WP-2.2.x is solved.
Unfortunately, the fix does not work with if you run WordPress 2.3.x on PHP >= 5.
So, what is the solution? Well, back in the past and remove the fix for 64 bit systems, as stated here.
I lost 3-4 hours before I figured out that there was a problem.
Why? Well, the problem affects only the localization of themes and plugins, and not the localization of the WordPress itself.
