I finally deployed the new theme, called Still simple! I am still working on some details, so bear in mind that some page could look horrible.
Anyway, this theme is generally cleaner, brighter, more readable (I guess) and more Italian than the previous one! Ok, the latter is not really important from a technical point of view, but it still a feature somehow
This theme is, in fact, based on the free theme Keep it simple (I’m also hosting a live demo) provided by Claudio Semeraro, an Italian web designer I have the honor (?!
) to (virtually) know.
And since I am italian too, the theme is still 100% made in Italy
I hope there is someone out there that can enjoy this and give me some feedbacks. Thanks!
Well, not really at the conference. It’s the Ibuildings party on the conference first day’s evening. Beer, BBQ, and good chats.
And yet another horrible photo of myself
Many people out there really believe that those two acronyms in the subject are the same thing. Well, I must say they are completely wrong. Design and implementation are two different matters.
However, I do not want to go to much in the details. Not now, anyway. I am tired. I’d just like to advice you all to have a look at this book: Object Oriented Programming with ANSI C.

A couple of days ago the DPC ‘09 ended and I must say that has been a good time. Nice people to talk to and some interesting talks. Here there are my favourite ones:
The talks are listed in a chronological order, from the first I’ve attended to the last one. Some quick comments about them: the first talk, from Andrei Zmievski, was well presented and full of information: at some point he was panting not to run late
The second one from Ian Barber (my colleague at Ibuildings) was about one of my favourite disciplines and the tradeoff between the academic notions and the practical PHP approach was very good! The third one was from Sebastian Bergmann and has been nice to see some good stuff studied years ago related to something I use every day. The last (but not the least) one was from Lorenzo Alberton (another colleague of mine): another talk that surely differs from the rest; interesting informations about alternative ways to represent trees structure and how to deal with them in an RDBMS.
To conclude, I’ve attended other two talks but I didn’t like them and don’t bother tell you which they are (but you can find all the talks from the DPC ‘09 here). I did like, however, the keynote from Andrei: PHP: People, Code, Ideas.
While I still did not find the time to rewrite LIBSVM in the way I would like, I keep updating my LIBSVM Plus, back-porting the latest changes from the head version (2.89 this time) of the classic LIBSVM.
This release is nothing more than a merge with classic LIBSVM code updates. All the “plus” features are the same of the previous (2.88) version.
Enjoy, test, and report!
PS: I have the intention of writing a PHP extension for LIBSVM (Plus), so, hopefully, I will finally rewrite LIBSVM too.
